The Pop duo are back with Part 2 of the Science of Dads with Dr. Rakesh Kapur. In Part 1, Dr. Rakesh shared with the Pops, the biological changes that happen in a man’s body while his wife is pregnant and men also get morning sickness. He also spoke about the importance of a father’s role in raising his child.
Here is Part 2 of Nadir Pop and Peter Pop’s chat with Dr. Rakesh Kapur.
An encouraging fact is that there is an increase in Indian fathers spending time with their children, on an average 64 to 70 hours per month. More than 50% of fathers are spending more than 80 hours.
While Dads have to get more involved in every day care of their children, according to research done by Dr. Kapur’s team – 95% of fathers have changed their diaper/nappies of their child, more than 35% of fathers have cooked meals for their children.
Dr. Rakesh brought up the example of the Flipkart campaign of “Penguin Dads” and the perception of Stay at home Dads. However there are barriers that fathers face in society – in schools and even on the playground.
Dr. Rakesh shared facts on the father’s involvement impact on the Intelligence quotient (IQ) Emotional Quotient (EQ), Social Quotient (SQ) and life expectancy of the child.

Peter Pop and Nadir Pop’s journey as parents so far has been fulfilling to say the least. They took a conscious decision to involve themselves wholly in all parenting duties and have shared diverse experiences on POPS IN A POD ranging from changing diapers to setting up their kids’ online school.
The Pop duo’s parenting journey has introduced them to wonderful people through the podcast, learning new experiences and different aspects of parenting. They are involved parents as they are constantly learning new things from family, friends, peers, experts and of course their own children.
After speaking to this particular guest – Dr. Rakesh Kapur* (MBBS and Director of the NGO BambooTree), Nadir Pop & Peter Pop realised that there was so much more to parenting other than varied experiences, especially when it comes to fatherhood. For the first time they got an understanding of being a father from a pure scientific point of view.
Ideologies and practices that they thought arose through years of conditioning and social constructs, in actuality, stems from science. And needless to say, it blew the Pops collective minds.
Dr. Kapur passionately advocates the importance of a father’s role in raising his child. Through research internationally and in India, he explained to the Pops how a child’s upbringing is impacted by the father’s constant presence. He had so much to share that the Pops decided to break up the chat into 2 parts.
The Pops urge all parents (new, old, to-be) to listen to this episode and reflect. Think of your children and their future.
